Kona, Hawaii - America's Coffee Destination

This post is LONG overdue, because, well, I've been busy!

Back in April my husband, Zach, and I took our belated Honeymoon to Hawaii. The first leg of our trip took us to a little area on the Island of Hawai'i (the Big Island) that many coffee drinkers may have heard of before, Kona. We hadn't planned anything for our trip except where we would be staying and we had a short list of things we definitely wanted to do - take surf lessons, go deep sea fishing, and visit a coffee plantation. Little did I know how much more there was to do, and how spectacular of a trip it would be.

Coffee vs. Espresso

I've noticed over the years that there is a lot of confusion around these two terms. A lot of people seem to think that they are the same thing, when the truth is their relationship is kind of like the square and the rectangle. While all espresso is coffee, not all coffee is espresso.

So what's the difference?

What, No Coffee?!

coffee jokeThat's right, I have no coffee here at home. No real coffee I should say - I have coarse ground decaf (only in my home in case of guests), best for use in a French Press, which I also don't have access to. How does this happen to a girl who was raised in a coffee shop for the last 16 years, you may ask? I'm asking the same thing right now.

As I sit here with my weak, caffeine-free, sad cup o' joe on a Monday morning, I realize there are many ways this post could be titled. The Best Alternatives for Coffee in the Morning, Where to go for Coffee in South Buffalo When You Have None, How Coffee Makes Me Feel, An Ode to Coffee, My Not-so-Strange Addiction: Coffee, and the list goes on...

Bloomin' Breakfast

Sometimes the same-old, same-old just gets so, well, old...

If you've ever been into the cafe, you've probably noticed that we have a specials menu each day for lunch, offering something a little different for our customers to enjoy, on top of our everyday menu. Whether it's soup, sandwiches, or "dinner-type" meals, we like to mix it up so that you can come in multiple times a week and not get bored. And, let's face it, so we don't get bored either!

Why Should I!?

Ya know, for years we've been looking for a good slogan for the Comfort Zone and it really irks me that the Comfort Zone gets such a bad rap.

4d9ec8635631bce106d71cfcec1afdce"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone."

"The comfort zone is the great enemy to creativity;"

“Dare to learn, to be different, to set your goals, to move out of your comfort zone, to be persistent.”

What do all these people have against the Comfort Zone? I mean come on, the pajama industry is a multi-BILLION dollar industry, and what's it all about? Being COMFORTABLE! How about Dr. Scholl's shoe inserts? Remotes, blankets, hoodies, hot chocolate, mac and cheese, pillows, what about pillows, like really people, PILLOWS!

Must Try Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Coffee and Soup seem to be getting all the attention on here lately, so today I thought I'd share my thoughts (and the closest thing I have to recipes) on the BEST grilled cheeses I've had over the years.

Now, to be honest, I'm slightly obsessed with cheese, so there is no such thing as a "bad" grilled cheese as far as I'm concerned, but there are some that are better than others...

So, my top three are as follows: (and please don't ask me to put them in an order because I just don't think I can do it, they each have their own special place in my heart!)
