Bloomin' Breakfast
Sometimes the same-old, same-old just gets so, well, old...
If you've ever been into the cafe, you've probably noticed that we have a specials menu each day for lunch, offering something a little different for our customers to enjoy, on top of our everyday menu. Whether it's soup, sandwiches, or "dinner-type" meals, we like to mix it up so that you can come in multiple times a week and not get bored. And, let's face it, so we don't get bored either!
So why am I telling you this? Lately I've had the itch to breathe some life into our Breakfast menu. I don't know if it's the cabin fever talking or the weekly breakfasts I've been having with my dad, but nevertheless, I have the itch. Unfortunately, I am just learning to like eggs and I've never been much of a breakfast person (always just a yogurt or some cereal), so I'm having a tough time coming up with new GREAT ideas!
Here are a few things I've been playing with:
- A French Toast Bagel Sandwich using cream cheese and blueberries,- It's yummy but it's still a work in progress.
- A "Bayou Breakfast Melt" with cajun style veggies, ham, and cheddar cheese. I really enjoy this one, but we don't usually have the bayou veggies, so if it's not going to be a big seller I can't keep cookin' 'em up :(
- Eggs Over Hard - no, I'm just kidding, really, judging by the picture you'll realize, eggs to order are NOT our specialty, and never will be!
What are your favorite breakfast flavor combinations? What would you like to see added to our morning menu? Give us an idea that we decide to use and we'll name it after you - or a name that you pick! I would love to add some new and exciting flavors to our breakfast offerings. What do you think of a specialty breakfast sandwich/wrap of the week?
A few notes: keep in mind that we work with one residential size stove, so during the mornings the burners are all taken up with soup kettles. Items need to be able to be pre-made, grilled on the panini press, or served cold. Anything that can be made as a sandwich or wrap seems to go over well!
