Soup's On

I am writing from the warmth of my couch, looking out at WNY's "Polar Vortex", and enjoying my first ever "Blizzard Day" off of work. It seemed like a good time to talk about soup.

Yesterday, as we were preparing for the snowstorm the news has been warning us of, I asked our Facebook followers what their favorite soups are for cold and snowy days. Some of your responses were:

  • beef-on-weckChicken Wing
  • Butternut Squash
  • Beef on Weck
  • Cream of Carrot
  • Baked Potato
  • Creamy Potato and Leek
  • and Meatless Split Pea

Not to mention a continuing Facebook conversation between CZ staff discussing Dill Pickle soup and how they really want me to make it again.

I find soup to be so interesting, the possibilities of soup are endless, limited only by the extent of your imagination. How many other dishes transcend so many cultures, borders, and languages? Whether it's Borscht, Minestrone, Gazpacho, Won Ton, Avgolemono, Ramen, Pho, Chicken Noodle, or soup by any other name, you can guarantee that it's comforting someone somewhere.

So in honor of soup, the "Artic Vortex", and our awesome customers, I figure, what better way to thank our followers than to make their favorite soups over the next couple of weeks?! Want to get in on the fun? Add your favorites to our list as a comment here or on Facebook, you can even share your favorite recipe if you'd like, and we will make it for you and the rest of our customers to enjoy!

stewI hope you're all home safe and sound, maybe even enjoying a bowl of stew, consommé, bouillion...

Winter Soup Puree (gluten free)
I will bring in the recipe when I come to work.
It's chicken broth, onion, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, turnips bay leaves, and a few spices....
It sounds good to me....

I love Tomato. However I really don't care for it when it's made with milk. What do you suggest?

Hi Sandy,

We do a Chunky Tomato Basil soup that is dairy free. Obviously that means it's night quite as creamy as a traditional tomato soup but it's good! We do it with lots of chunks of tomatoes, celery, onion, and clearly basil!
