15 Yrs of Fun, Food, and Family

Fifteen years. A lot happens in 15 years.
Hamburg Village reconstruction, a building facelift, 255,317 cups of coffee, 42,831 servings of soup (not including sides with meals), 23,274 lattes, 124,421 pastry hearts, countless memories, and priceless customer relationships and friendships formed.

Saturday, December 1st, 2012 the Comfort Zone Cafe celebrated its 15 year anniversary.

Early PicIt's hard to imagine life before the Comfort Zone Cafe as a part of the Barrett family. Personally, I have grown up inside this business, I was eleven when the Comfort Zone started serving in 1997. Over the past year or so I've tried to imagine what my life would have been like if my mother hadn't followed her dream and opened the cafe.

So many of my memories stem from the Cafe, whether it was board game nights in the back room with high school friends, learning to cook with my mother in the kitchen, or dressing up and serving food each year for Burgerfest - everything comes back to 17 Main St.Early Pic1

I've realized over the years that the Comfort Zone Cafe holds a place in a lot of people's memories. As one person wrote on Facebook: "I can't believe it's been 15 years!! I remember when Melissa Augustine and I were planning our first adventure to the CZ during 10th grade global studies! :)"  and another "Looking through all the photos reminds me of all the memories that I had of going there to just relax. Although by far my favorite memory had to be taking swing dance lessons on Friday nights. I can't wait until my next trip home when I can show my son all about the comfort zone :)". We also have a local musician who tells us of his memories writing music in our dining room, plus all of the first dates, business meetings, reunions, showers, and birthdays that have been celebrated at the Comfort Zone.

Oh where to begin. It was a Saturday morning and I ordered the breakfast scrambler. When I did get my breakfast the little butter cups were missing something inside, someone who shall remain unknown had used the butter for her bread. I quietly pointed this out. Sometime later this person purposely gave me two empty little butter cups with my breakfast, with much denial from the rest of the staff. One of our great memory moments with our friends.
